Other things worth mentioning
There are lots of things still around Waikiki and in the area, which I will just briefly mention for consideration
The Pearl City Arizona Memorial. Was there once, don’t need to go a second time.
Foster Botanical Garden, different from Waimea, but nice too
Honolulu Zoo, well, a zoo
On the South East tip of the island, near Waimanalo Beach is a nice Sea life park. Here they have those common shows with Seals jumping out of the water etc
In the area up there is also one of the craters where you can drive from the main road through a tunnel and then drive/walk up to the crater. Forgot the name.
As mentioned before, when you drive through the inland towards the north, you pass by the doles shop. Here they eat,.drink, dream, think, laugh and, of course sell pineapple. Sometimes I think the juice oozes out under the doors, it’s pineapple heaven. Been there a few times bought some pineapple related souvenirs.
And somewhere on this road in the North there was for some time an Australian woman who sold pineapples from her street car. She was from Bondi. Somehow many years ago she ‘followed’ her heart and somehow married a Hawaiian and settled on Oahu. Hubby has long disappeared but she still dreams about returning one day to her home Bondi. (I don’t think she will ever make it) but in the meantime I am her ‘connection’ to home and keep her up to date with the local gossip. Last couple of visits I did not see her, may be she has made it back after all!?!
Every now and then there is a large market just north of Waikiki centre on the large sports grounds. If you are a bit after some touristy things to buy, this is one place to go.
Just off the Sheraton on the beach they start catamaran cruises every afternoon
The afternoon cruises start fairly close to the Sheraton, just off the beach
